It’s not uncommon, especially in our state of California for a real estate purchase of the residential variety to come with at outdated energy inefficient swimming pool. Here in my neighborhood we all have access to a beautiful community pool with decent hours yet many of the homes have their own backyard pool. I suspect these were mainly built in the 1970’s and 1980’s. One option that I’ve heard of is to turn your pool into a cistern for rainwater collection. I’m thinking this would probably be effective in an area with more plentiful rainfall. Another option which is featured in the following article is to create a greenhouse which is what this family in Arizona opted for. Thanks to Kate for bringing this to my attention.
