One of my weekly Spring and Summer childhood chores was to fill the wells via hose around my mother’s prized roses. Yes there was always the verbal reminder not to get the leaves wet. These were on display, arranged in tidy rows in our suburban front yard for all to admire, and they did. I consider my gardening style to be more “Primitive Cottage” than formal in nature but I still intersperse other plantings with roses.
